IDAHO – Among a ski resort and other recreational activities, Tamarack will now house a school.

Through a partnership with Tamarack Resort and Mountain Community School, a new and unique outdoor learning opportunity has arisen in the McCall-Donnelly School District area.

“This will provide a premier education opportunity in the region and we are really focusing on a place-based, project-based approach where students move to the next level after achieving the masters degree. We really meet students where they are, ”said Dr Jennifer Schon, co-founder of MCS. “We do it by focusing on bigger issues, solving problems and getting the kids out to do it. Being at Tamarack means we can be outdoors year round accessing all of the wonderful resources they have. ”

MCS is a free public charter school. It will be open to any kindergarten to grade 8 student who is within the boundaries of the McCall-Donnelly School District. Registration is done through an app-based lottery system.

“We have something a little different from what a traditional school looks like,” said Patrick Berg, co-founder of MCS. up and understand that and who they are.

The program will focus on outdoor education, as well as other subjects, using resources around Tamarack as a classroom and playground for students.

“All students, regardless of their socioeconomic status, will be able to benefit from free seasonal subscriptions to Tamarack, which allows us to use the ski lift services to study different ecosystems, for recreation, just for recreation of outdoors, ”said Jonas Bean, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MCS. “No matter where the kids are from, everyone will be on an equal footing using everything Tamarack has to offer.”

The school will open its doors in the fall of 2022 and will be located in the resort. For the link to request registration for the lottery, click here.
