A place to relax and chat, a homework help or a listening ear

New youth work sessions at the Hive Community Center in Peasedown St John are proving to be a big hit with the young people in the village.

In total, about sixty young people now regularly access services. The Hive youth worker Nick Blythe said: “Last term we launched our ‘open access’ youth work sessions and opened the youth club for the first time since the pandemic hit.

“It was great to reopen and reconnect with the young people of our village. We had more than sixty different young people who accessed the sessions with a weekly attendance of about fifty young people.

The Hive Youth Club is open Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants can take part in a wide range of activities ranging from games to arts and crafts, recreational activities or ‘chill and chat’.

“We currently run sessions with three or four volunteers per session, but we would like to increase to five or six per session. So if anyone locally is interested in serving the community in this way, please don’t hesitate to contact me via: [email protected]

In addition to the weekly youth club, Nick and the team are launching a mentorship program which will provide young people with a listening ear, homework support and a safe space to relax.

“Whoever you are, young or old, let us know your thoughts on youth service as we would love to engage with you and grow the service we offer,” concluded Nick.
