City of Toledo | Launch of the Kid Mayor program

Members of the Children’s Council will be announced and attend the Council meeting

Mayor Kapszukiewicz and Toledo City Council members will be joined by Kid Mayor and Kid Council members to officially kick off their one-year term on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. on the 22nd floor of a government center.

After the announcement, the children will attend their first Toledo City Council meeting and have a meal together while learning the basics of Toledo City operations.

Quarterly for the rest of the year, kids will have the opportunity to visit and learn about the Water Treatment Plant, Engage Toledo, Toledo Police & Fire, and community partners like Toledo Mud Hens. At the end of their one-year term, Kid Mayor and Kid Council will make a policy or legislative recommendation to the Mayor and City Council.

Hundreds of fourth-grade students from Toledo Public Schools and local schools in Washington have applied to become members of the Kid Council. The top 13 candidates were selected by their schools and then interviewed by a panel of community leaders to choose the Kid Mayor.

This program is presented in partnership with the Toledo Public and Washington Local Schools, the City of Toledo, and the Commission on Human Relations Youth Empowerment and Engagement Committee.
