Bhubaneswar: The Youth Congress wrote to the Chairman of the Odisha Civil Service Commission (OPSC) on Saturday to postpone the Main State Civil Service Examination-2020 due to the increase in cases of Covid-19.
The exam will start on January 20 and run until February 8. The candidates have already asked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene in the case.
Smruti Ranjan Lenka, Chairman of the Odisha Unit of the Youth Congress, said in the letter that the OPSC should not conduct the review at a time when the state is reporting more than 10,000 Covid cases per day. . “Experts have said we could hit the peak of the third wave by the end of this month or the first week of February. This means the state will witness more cases in the coming days. main exam during this time is sheer stupidity,” he added.
He said the government had closed schools, colleges and universities after the increase in Covid cases in the state and wondered why he wanted to hold the exam during this time.
He said several of the candidates had tested positive for Covid-19 before the exam.
“Many of them may get infected while attending the exam and it will affect their performance. Good health and mental peace are necessary for a candidate to appear for the test,” he added.
Lenka said some applicants who stay in rural areas will find it difficult to find accommodation in the city and come for the test during the Covid pandemic.
