The Lagos State government said it has created various programs to empower and train young people in different agricultural value chains.
Agriculture Commissioner Abisola Olusanya said on Thursday during the state’s public schools agricultural quiz competition to commemorate World Food Day 2021 in Lagos.
Olusanya, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Hakeem Adeniji, said: “The Ministry of Agriculture has provided different platforms for youth engagement through training and capacity building through various projects and programs in different agricultural value chains, thus contributing to job creation, youth empowerment and poverty reduction.
Olusanya added that the unemployment challenge could be met by training young people in agricultural programs.
“The problem of unemployment and the voids created by aging farmers would be addressed by the programs, and this vision explained the objective of the Lagos State Development Plan in Agriculture, which is to shift local food production current from 18% to 40%. percent of the state’s food demand by 2025 to match the state’s continued population increase, ”she said.
