Jim Johnson joins Clarke for Senate team as campaign chair

Jefferson Twp., NJ: 26th Legislative District State Senate candidate Christine Clarke is proud to welcome Jim Johnson to her team as campaign chair.

Johnson has a long and distinguished experience of service in and outside the public service. He recently headed the nation’s largest municipal law department as legal counsel to New York City and served as a key advisor to the mayor during the worst of the pandemic. Governor Murphy asked him to lead the effort to revitalize Atlantic City and bring it back under local control as the governor’s special adviser. His work there continues to bear fruit in expanding hospital facilities, the expected arrival of a new supermarket to tackle food insecurity and new programs for young people.

Decades ago, he served as Under Secretary of the Treasury at the head of the ATF, US Customs and Secret Service, where he also served as co-chair of the National Arson Task Force of the United States. church alongside former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. As a volunteer citizen, he chaired the board of directors of the Brennan Center for Justice, co-founded the New Jersey Communities Forward nonprofit group, and for seven years served as the Federal Comptroller of Affordable Housing in Westchester County, NY.

“Christine Clarke brings intelligence, insight and energy to everything she does,” Johnson said. “She will work to protect the environment, for all of us. She will stand up for families in the Senate just as she is a role model for parents who stand up for the best for their children. She loves her community. Indeed, this love is both a reason for the campaign and its fuel. Christine Clarke will be a senator for all of us. I feel extremely honored to have been invited to chair his campaign.

“I am delighted to welcome Jim to the team,” said Clarke. “His advice and friendship over the past few years has been invaluable. Our conversations about policy-oriented activism and community-centered leadership have greatly improved what I do in this race as a candidate and in my private life as a volunteer. Our campaign is thrilled to benefit from his guidance, expertise and leadership as we work towards victory in November. “

“From day one, our campaign has focused on prioritizing real solutions for our communities rather than partisan talking points,” said Benjamin Weisman, campaign manager. “Jim has proven throughout his career how much can be accomplished by building meaningful coalitions, listening to the community and advocating for real and lasting change. We are honored to have him on this trip with us.
