On Wednesday, Nigerian police woke up to news of the death of DIG Joseph Egbunike.

He is believed to have died 10 minutes after a medical examination in Abuja on Tuesday.

Anambra-born Joseph Obiajulu Egbunike was the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force’s Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department.

Egbunike has been appointed to head an investigative committee set up by Inspector General of Police Usman Baba to investigate suspended DCP Abba Kyari’s alleged involvement in the $1.1m wire fraud of dollars linked to a notorious Internet fraudster, Ramon Abass, alias Hushpuppi. .

Graduated in accounting, law

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons.), BL, Masters in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD ) and a doctorate in criminology. .

Served at NNPC

During her mandatory National Youth Service Corps year, Egbunike worked as an Account Invoice Officer in the Group Accounts Division at NNPC.

He is survived by his wife and children.
