You are now a graduate. You are now expected to be self-sufficient. You may find it fortuitous that the federal government kept the National Youth Service Corps in operation. Not only will this expose you to new cultures, but it will also give you the opportunity to meet new, interesting people and grow your network.
For most graduates, going to NYSC takes away the awkwardness of sitting idly by at home. You gain work experience and earn minimum wage for a year. But the question which becomes much more difficult is “What is after POP?” No one wants to go home twiddling their thumbs. The ideal would be to get a well-paying job as soon as possible. Then you can be your own man / woman and finally leave your parents’ house.

It is a sad reality in Nigeria that school does not always prepare us for the job market. Most people graduate only to find that they don’t have any employable skills. And with the scarcity of jobs, you might find it extremely difficult to land a job in your field of study.
Therefore, the best way forward is to acquire valuable skills which not only improve your employability but also allow you to start your own business.

It doesn’t serve to be an isolated island. Everyone needs someone. You need the right connections if you are to go far in life. It is therefore imperative that you start to develop your networks early. This way, you will have access to timely information. You know the job offers and when and how to apply. So try as much as possible to make as many friends as possible. You can even create a LinkedIn account and connect with people. Follow professionals in your area of interest.
3. Prepare your CV / CV
An eye-catching CV / CV helps you stand out among the thousands of applications recruiters have to process. You must adapt your CV to the position for which you are applying. Do not use the same generic CV for all applications. Make sure to modify it accordingly. So be sure to conduct proper research on how to write a winning resume.
4. Contact recruiters and submit unsolicited applications.
LinkedIn has made it possible to connect with people who can advance your career. You can connect with recruiters and human resources staff from various companies. This gives you the chance to cold-present them and have a chance to be recommended for a job.

5. Look for suitable vacancies

6. Prepare for interviews
Interviews can be intimidating. When you face a sign your palms get sweaty and if you’re not careful you lose confidence and display negative body language.
But practice makes perfect. The more interviews you go through, the more you get used to the setting and the closer you get to getting a job. So don’t be afraid to apply for as many jobs as possible and skip the interview when prompted.
