The CIPC monitors the supervision of district projects

The Independent Commission on Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses (ICPC) carried out oversight monitoring of constituency and executive projects in Lagos and six other states.

The supervision of post-project monitoring should allow the agency to carry out a second check on the projects affected in 2019 and 2020, which were previously monitored by the CIPC managers.

The supervision monitoring exercise, held in Lagos on Thursday, was led by Jimoh Sulieman, deputy director of the ICPC’s constituency and leadership project monitoring division.

According to Mr. Suleiman, the supervision exercise is being carried out in Lagos, Kano, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Osun and Ondo.

This is a follow-up exercise to the third phase of its’Monitoring exercise for constituency and leadership projects, ‘held in September, where the execution of relevant projects in 17 states and the CTF were followed.

1,024 “district” projects and 227 executive projects, totaling 1,251 projects, allocated in 2019 and 2020, were monitored during the year.

“The projects were randomly selected for the post-project monitoring supervision exercise and the objective is to check some of the projects previously monitored and reported by the ICPC staff, to see if the reports correspond to what we have. in the field. “

Mr. Suleiman said that the monitoring of supervision is also a feedback mechanism and that one of its objectives is to encourage the beneficiaries of the district projects to take ownership of it.

Thursday’s oversight follow-up exercise, held in the local government areas of Surulere and Shomolu, where the ICPC visited the newly constructed link road at Babs Animashaun-Orile-Bode Thomas.

The team also inspected the construction of sanitation and hygiene facilities by the Ministry of Water Resources at 12 local government sites in Surulere.

The provision of ICT equipment for youth empowerment in Somolu and Bariga regions was also monitored.

The ICPC previously followed up on constituency and leadership projects in Lagos between September 1 and 12.

Three teams had already been deployed to Lagos State to follow 123 zonal intervention projects in 20 local communities and three senatorial districts of the state.

The monitoring exercise was carried out by ICPC staff, quantity surveyors, accountants, civil society organizations, the media and grassroots community development associations.

The agency said the monitoring exercise would allow it to perform recoveries on projects / contracts confirmed to have been inflated to those whose quality had been compromised.

He also seeks to investigate fraudulent procurement practices in awarding contracts for constituency and leadership projects and to prosecute offending agents.

The first phase of the exercise was held in 2019 in 12 states and the CTF and saw the follow-up of 524 projects.

The second phase, in 2020, had approximately 822 monitored projects in 16 states.
